Current Plans

Unfortunately I have not been able to obtain permission from Laing Property to reproduce the visuals for the proposed development. Alexandra Dod of Laings said "Unfortunately, I am advised by our marketing
department that because of copyright issues, we are unable to issue copies
of the Enfield images." This was further backed up by a conversation with Steve Wehrle at the Enfield Preservation Societies meeting.

However, the drawings are available for viewing at the Library or at the Civic Centre.  I also have copies of the plans and visuals and would be please to show them to anybody who is interested.

Areas Effected

The development area is limited to the two main car parks in Enfield Town. The first, opposite Marks and Spencer and the other surrounding the Free Evangelical Church in Cecil Road.  It is planned to build shops on the M&S car park, and a multi-story car park and civic amenity on the Cecil Road car park.

Road Works

The road works include closing Sydney Road north of Cecil Road and connecting Genotin Road to London Road. The traffic flow in London Road is planned to be northbound with a southbound bus lane.  The southbound traffic will be diverted into Southbury Road where it will turn right into Genotin Road (by the station) and then connect back into London Road where the Townhouse is currently standing.

Demolition

There are several buildings which are earmarked for demolition including The Townhouse, possible the whole of the Enfield Arms, Millets, the Curtain Mill site, the clothes shop behind the Curtain Mill, the Free Evangelical Church and numbers 109 and 111 Cecil Road.

Developers

The selected developer is Laing Property who have recently been taken over by Keir Developments in a £91m deal.  The £50m development is being funded by Dutch investor ING. A 50:50 joint venture company between Laing Property and ING, called Enfield Retail Ltd, has been set up for the development.
