New Ideas

I have put together a few ideas for the scheme, which I would think make it feel more like an appropriate development for a market town.

Car parking

Using the current area that has been allocated for the Enfield Town development, dig down two levels across the entire site to create an underground car park, effectively more then doubling the amount of available parking space in that area.  This will need to be extremely well lit and as open plan as possible.  It should have CCTV cameras to provide additional security.

Make an entrances to the underground car park next to Woolworths which
will also double as an entrance to a service yard and another entrance from Northbound on London Road.  Also create two exits from the car park, one back into Cecil Road and the other northbound into Sydney Road.

New Shops

On top of this underground car park, build two story shops in the style of the buildings near Pizza Express that face outwards to the road.  These shops would face out onto Sydney Road opposite Marks and Spencers and curve around into Cecil Road.

On the south side of Cecil Road build further shops that face north around the Free Evangelical Church and they curve around into London Road and sit in line with the building line along London Road. At the rear of these shops, create a square with a couple of coffee shops and restaurants with seating area and a water feature.

There might also room for an additional shop around the southbound entrance from London Road next to Woolworths.

Road Works

Do not alter any of the roads in Enfield Town.  Leave the one way system exactly as it is.  The roads in and out of Enfield are the main problem and changing the system in the town will not help the situation.

Demolition

These ideas would save the Townhouse and the Enfield, but the Curtain Mill and the old bakery would have to be demolished to make way for the service yard and entrance to the car park.
