The Townhouse is earmarked for demolition to allow Genotin Road to link back into London Road. Currently there are no plans to replace this facility in Enfield Town and it will be a substantial loss to the Town and the surrounding area.
Providing an amazing variety of events, the Townhouse will be missed by many people in Enfield.
Paul Bottomer (Salsa and Tango at The Townhouse) says: "Not only is it a shame to lose the buildings but also the facilities they offer. The Townhouse in particular has an international reputation and hosts events that attract visitors to Enfield from a very wide area. Visitors from as far away as Taiwan and Germany have made special visits specifically to the Townhouse to take advantage of the world class Tango classes there run by Enfield resident four times World Champion. The Salsa events too attract visitors to Enfield from throughout the home counties and the Townhouse Salsa events are held to be the model for many similar Salsa Clubs throughout the UK. I believe the position is similar with followers of Jazz and Rock 'n' Roll who must now be wondering, if it works why fix it?
The owners of the Townhouse are currently completely against the idea of demolishing it and are fighting their own battle to save it. I am happy to pass on any emails of support to the owner, Steve Nicholas. Please email thetownhouse@enfieldtown.org.uk.
